The Dream and Do Farm
(Patrick Dunfey)

I got a letter from the Dream and Do Farm
Dreaming of doing was doing you harm
But you write with a smile and seal with a kiss
who’da thunk your green-thumb would come to this
your sewing in season seems so insincere

But off on the lake the sparkling sunshine
beckons the reckless girl into the drink
you dive to the bottom and let out your air

Rising up slowly in a deadman’s float
to bob on the surface by Bob in his boat
he’s fishing for dinner, you’re looking for laughs
bored by his silence you swim to the raft
and you climb up the ladder, grip your toes on the edge
standing there dripping like the clouds overhead

Back on the shore the wind slams a shutter
and tumbles a rocking chair on to its side
your flesh puckers goose-bumps as your bathing suit dries
